Introduction & Strengths
Welcome to the Faculty of Informatics research website!
Research within the Faculty is undertaken within a
variety of streams located in Research
Institutes and Centres. Traditional research strengths
of the Faculty include leading edge research in the
fields of computer science and security, telecommunications,
mathematics, industrial automation and power engineering.
These themes remain the focus of our research endeavours
to attract world class collaboration, staff and scholars.
In 2000, the University of Wollongong was rated Australia's
University of the Year by the Good Universities
Guide for "Outstanding
Research & Development Partnerships with Industry".
Faculty of Informatics staff feel proud to have been
a part of this award and continue to develop research
linkages with industry and academia worldwide.
The world's best companies, such as Nortel, Motorola
and Boeing, have undertaken significant research projects
within the Faculty.
The Faculty also plays an important role in the Australian
Govenrments Australian
Research Council (ARC) and Cooperative
Research Centre (CRC) programs. It contributes
in many ways to the CRC
for Intelligent Manufacturing Systems
and Technologies, the Smart
Internet Technology CRC,
the Desert Knowledge CRC, the CRC
for Welded Structures,
and the CRC for Railway Engineering and Technology.
Involvement in industrially-relevant research gives
Informatics graduates a head start with industry.
The Faculty has collaborative projects with universities
and institutions such as Harvard
Medical School, Cochlear
Ltd, Australian
Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Huazhong University
of Science and Technology (China), Zhengzhou Institute
of Light Industry (China), as well as most Australian
universities.
